We arrived in Mildura on Easter sunday not expecting to find a campsite with spaces, but found a big one which sat right on the Murray River. The Murray River here was also the border between Victoria and New South Wales.
Our first night was spent drinking with a group of Aussie lads who had been doing watersports on the Murray over the weekend. It was a nice start to our small time in Mildura, but the rest of the 5 days here were spent hunting for jobs, unsuccessfully, and worrying a bit about the van, which had started making some strange noises. Luckily for us the van seemed to sort itself out (as they do) and has been running fine since, but we hope it doesn't come back to haunt us.
Unfortunately we seemed to arrive in Mildura at the wrong time of the harvest season. The grape season had just finished and the citrus season didn't start for another month. So our possibilty of finding any fruit picking around was pretty low.
One notable day in Mildura was when the town was descended upon by swarms of locusts. One minute we were sat reading in the campsite, the next, thousands of locusts seemed to appear from somewhere. On the following Thursday we decided to head west of Mildura, across the border to Renmark, South Australia, in the hope of finding some work.
