Yay we had a lay in and a perfect night sleep, I woke at 7:45, met Pim downstairs for breakfast.
Our lift turned up at 8:30 too take us for our cooking school, the school was in chaing mai so only a ten minute journey was needed.
We arrived and was met by head chef Amy, a Thai lady who was speaking perfect English. A short introduction and welcome snack was provided.
She explained to us the history of the welcome snack and how it was tradition for the English to provide a drink of some sort. With Thai their tradition is to chew. Our welcome snack was a green leaf that we made into a small cone and filled with the seasoning of Thai food...sweet, sour, spicy, and crunchy.
Our welcome snack and formal introduction was over.
Next task was too visit the local Thai Market to review the ingredient we were going to use today.
The Market was only a short walk from the centre. When entering the Market the aromas were fantastic un like any other traditional Market I had visited. There were no refridgerators on any stall and I found it hard to believe that the meat would able to keep fresh, asking Amy on this she insisted all the meat was killed and prepped this morning. First stop was the coconut stall showing us how fresh coconut was prepared and shredded. The second stop was fresh meat, this consisted of pig trotters and plenty of offal.
and our final stop was the rice stall where all the different grains were explained.
We returned to the school and started to prep for our dinners
We learnt how to cook all the traditional dishes and some northern curries.
I'm not going into great detail as of yet because I will use these dishes as my signature dish now!! ( long standing joke )
The school finished and we were all full after learning how to cook 14 dishes and eating every dish we prepared! What an awesome day!
We finished the evening off by visiting the night bizarre and watching the miss transgender competition and some chang beer
