We departed our hotel fresh as a daisy and decided we would explore this fine city...first stop the Koh San road.
This was everything I had expected, street vendors hotels and people selling tacky presents. We were peckish so decided to stop and have some breakfast. We chose a bar and ordered two fried eggs, ham, hotdog sausage and salad oh and a beer!
We finished our meals and decided it was time for the tourist trail.
First stop was the grand palace. As we strolled to the grand palace we were stopped by many impostors, telling us the grand palace was closed. After reading in the lonely planets guide, that this was their trick to get you in a tuk tuk and rob you of your belongings we carried on. We arrived at the palace and guess what, it was closed! The official at the gate hailed a tuk tuk and told him to take us too three other temples and that we would only pay 5 baht(10p) for his time. We hopped in and the journey of death had started!
Our tuk tuk driver was nuts, weaving in and out of lanes dodging all other traffic to get to our first stop! Big buddha this statue was huge! Standing high and proud covered in gilt, surrounding it was many urns containing ashes of dead people in cabinets. We decided that we should find our tuk tuk and head back off.
After speaking with a local he advised us to book the rest of our trip as he had to spend two nights in his car on phi phi as every where was fully booked. Our tuk tuk took us to the TAT (tourism authority Thailand) we were greeted by Steve a Welshman who knew Norwich well and laughed about the murderers pub, steve sat us with Max who booked the rest of our tour with us.
As we departed, we asked if we could stop at a chemist to get some treatment for dani's eye as she had conjunctivitis.
Next our tuk tuk wanted us to go and visit two shops because he would get money if we visited, these were a suit shop and a goldsmiths. We had a quick browse then departed both and then went back to the grand palace.
We paid our man and thanked him for his time then entered the grand palace.
After getting suitable attire from the lenders I was sporting some nice blue linen trousers and dani a green and black sarong, we looked lovely!!
We entered the palace. No words can describe this place it was immense! All the buildings lined with gold and sparkled when the light caught them, we saw the green emerald buddha and many other smaller temples.
We departed and decided we wanted to see the reclining Buddha, which was only a short walk from the grand palace.
The reclining buddha was huge much larger than the big Buddha but laying down.
We had done what we wanted too and felt some food was in order, back to the Koh San road.
A short walk in and my feet were sore we opted for a fish spa to relieve them, this was funny as we put our feet into a tank and hundreds of tiny fish nibbled at your feet tickling them and eating all the dead skin, 15 minutes of this and I was histerical.
After finding a suitable bar we ate and drank, our waitress(lau) was kind and spoke good English.
After several hours and lots of beer cocktails and chatting we decided that we couldn't go on anymore. Both agreeing that Bangkok was dirty, smelly and noisy we both couldn't wait to get out of here.
