Wombatville

The journey from Sydney to Kiama was more stunning than we had expected. we took the tourist route all the way down and although it took longer we were rewarded with some fantastic coastal views.

One of our favourite programs is Grand Designs so we didn't know where to look when we were driving through the slightly built up areas. Some of the houses were amazing, with these great views across the pacific. Our favourite was a modest size house on the cliff edge so uninterrupted views with an outdoor pool that had glass sides so you could even enjoy the views under water!

We went through Kiama, Mum, Dad, Nan and Grandy had stayed here with a group of Alpacas when they came to Oz. It is a lovely town and even though there were high winds when we arrived we visited the blow hole and took a few snaps. We did see alpacas but I'm not certain they are the same ones!

I had found a rest stop that was a little out of the way, in to the country but it sounded nice so we went! The village outside is called Kangaroo valley which is quaint but there isn't much to see. Our campsite was a few kilometres further into a forest which was a bit of an inconvenience. We were annoyed at the state of the roads getting to the site but it was well worth it. It was out of the way for us but the place to be if you're a wombat! We had read in rockhampton that wombats were in the top 10 of endangered species in the world. I don't think they checked this site! It was dusk and the beautiful surroundings made us glad we ventured out this far. I was making my way back from the toilets (flush-well fancy) when I saw James frantically beckoning me over. A wombat had ran straight passed him and was grazing just over the fence. We were both so excited. To be honest it was exciting but we needn't have panicked. Over the course of the night we heard and saw a further five more! One was so busy reaching some grass under our van that he started to shake the van! We rocked it to scare him off! It was amazing.. Oh there were loads of wallabies about as well but we've seen hundreds of them already!
