We had heard only great things about the famous Byron Bay so we were a little disappointed when on the morning we had planned to hit the beach it started pouring. We weren't disheartened and decided to drive along the coastal route starting at Ballina and working our way up to Byron in the hope the weather would clear. Along the way we just made out (through the rain) some potentially fantastic views so we made plans to one back the same way if/when the weather turned.
The weather got a bit brighter as we arrived in byron town so we explored the shops and looked at lovely clothes that we can't afford! We understood what the fuss was about it is a bustling town with plenty to do all the while retaining a small personable atmosphere. We were both delighted when two young girls came over to us and offered us free drinks at one of the bars, we didn't think we looked young enough! They offered a free pick up but as we were staying 8km up the freeway in a rest area we didn't think the offer would still be on the table. We had a look at the bar on our way out of the town because it was another of Robs recommendation.
The beaches looked pretty awesome as well but fingers crossed we'll see more of them tomorrow.
Yes! The sun was shining it was a glorious day all day. We had another brilliant day. Spent the morning on the beach watching in awe as the surfers showed us how it's done. We walked up and down another beach and treated ourselves to a frozen yoghurt in Byron. Once again it is a town that we could spend longer at and a place we will return. We re-visited the scenic lookout points we hadn't really seen yesterday and went to a few quiet beaches before disaster struck us down.
