Montefegatasi.....
Slept in this morning... And then after breakfast just some gardening, washing etc. then we took Bengy for a long walk in the forest, up and up in the hills, very pretty. First time we let him off the lead.. He loved it! He was really funny too as he reminded us of Mischa! He would run ahead and then around a bend and the next thing he would run back to check we were still coming!
Later in the afternoon we went for a drive to Montefegatasi... Another village built on the side of the mountain! This one is the highest of all the mountain villages - 842 metres above sea level. Because of its strategic position, it was used by Lucca to guard its boundary with Modena, and as a result was subject to enemy assault. Now the village sits sleepily in the sun, overlooking all the other little villages of Bagni di Lucca.
The road was not quite as scary as the one yesterday, but almost. Still cannot believe that hundreds of years ago people decided that the best place for a new village is vertically up the mountain and build the houses right into the hill! Crazy! But they are so lovely to wander around! And very peaceful and quiet! One thing is for sure... You will never see anything like these villages back home!
