The second part of our Thailand adventure was coming to an end today and we all felt ready. The room was surprisingly cool this morning and after a refreshing shower I went down the road for noodle soup with Kratos leaving Laura to get dressed. It did not take us long to pack up our things and the guesthouse would kindly look after our bags for the day.
Tonight we were going to take an overnight bus to one of the Thailand-Laos borders located near the capital of Laos. This would then be followed by a border cross in the morning then on to Vang Vieng, one of the most cult backpacker destinations in South East Asia. Before this happened however, we decided to chill out somewhere with cheap drinks and air conditioning. After much deliberation we first found ourselves in Burger King of all places, Laura really fancied on of their milkshakes.
Laura purchased a milkshake, the more expensive one advertised, and it turned out to be very small. I enquired with he staff and they explained a large portion isn't advertised on the menu and is 10 baht more. Damn the Thais and their stupidly small portions of everything. Although frustrated at the price I remained calm, cool and collected. The air conditioning was a life saver however, but it was not long before we felt hungry. As it was our last day we decided to splurge on western food and Mexican was top of the list. Kratos had visited this particular place before trying the burritos, but he had seen mammoth burgers being served. At this point my mouth was watering and stomach rumbling already.
When the burgers came they did not disappoint! Really thick patties that flowed with juices when you squeezed on it, the perfect burger! Laura had a massive burrito which you could probably kill someone with. The feeling of western food was amazing, having that protein full feeling rather than carbs! Although more expensive it was definitely worth it!
In keeping with our western theme today we headed to McDonald's for two reasons; firstly the air conditioning and secondly, the cheap, quality coffee. It wasn't long before we settled with our wifi, coffee, hot chocolate and reading. We had a couple of hours to kill so I tried to persevere with the blogs.
Soon enough we headed back to the hostel ready for our bus pick up at 6pm. Fair play to them they turned up smack on time! We managed to secure good seats at the front and we were on our way to the Thailand-Laos border. Darkness descended as the driver was taking bends creating a considerable G force on you, we were in for an uncomfortable night.
