We woke up today feeling a lot better but in a somewhat cruel twist of fate, the fan in our room seemed to turn it into a fridge. It was freezing, causing me and Laura to basically fight over our single blanket. We actually had to turn the fan down for the first time in ages. All that moaning the previous nights saying it was too hot, now it was too bloody cold! Luckily the bed was amazingly quite comfy which made up for the suboptimal temperature. We realised today was mothers day so sent some messages of love and hugs home before heading for breakfast. We decided to splash out on a pot tea this morning which turned out be massive. Over four cups full in the end, crazy! But it was amazing... decent tea with fresh milk and Laura loved having a tea pot again. We then headed down to the beach were we bumped into Sam and Jonathan who informed us they were heading out to Siem Reap tomorrow, they had been here in Sihanoukville for a whole two weeks! They decided to not go to the island in the end for financial reasons (the boat fare) so were heading up north. It was still quite early in the morning but people all around us were chilling out and sunbathing while others were on the cannabis already... Every now and then you get a waft of it, I guess you can see how it can become addictive after a while, that's why we stay away from the stuff!
As we lounged we were joined by our little Cambodian friend, he's a young boy of about five who knows how to sell... He walks around with a coat hanger full of bracelets and attempts every trick going to sell them including "rock, paper scissor... You lose... You buy". He then wins every time as he just waits long enough to see your move. He walks around with a bum bag with everything in including a Swiss Army knife, which he produced today when we gave him and apple and started chopping wildly. He also has a phone, wads of cash and the right banter! Such a cute kid and his English is fantastic.
After we parted ways (we drew so no bracelet purchasing today) we got some local food from our usual bar which as always was high quality. I learnt from an Aussie bloke at the bar that he had swam to an island off shore which is roughly 1.5km away. Considering the currents around here, we thought we was mad. Plus, if he had researched, there is a considerable amount jellyfish in these seas which can basically paralyse a limb.
I was still feeling not 100% but I did manage to get some sun which did make me feel a little worse. Laura had starting chatting to an Irish couple who had been on the road a couple of months. I don't think Laura realised she had not put any sun scream on her face. Her forehead, nose and cheeks were glowing a nice red colour, schoolboy error! We had a couple of drinks with the Irish guy who was heading further down the coast tomorrow! We said our goodbyes and went home for a much needed hot shower. On returning, I had a vegetable curry and Laura the vegetable stir fry, we were very content with our fill and it wasn't long before we felt shattered. We debated heading to town tomorrow so Laura could have a good look around! The Internet has been very poor but Laura's sister managed to get through with her mum but the conversation was very difficult, due to poor bandwidth. We did some reading and it wasn't long before I must of passed out with the fan whirling.........
