Damn fine coffee in this country. We visied a coffee farm and learnt all about the process of growing and making the best coffee in the world. Sampled the delights of the farm and got wired on the chocolate espresso beans. Yum.

We took the 3am tour to Tikal to watch the sunrise, an amazing experience which i would recommend to everyone, despite the early hour! Walking through the jungle to the ruins in the dark looking up at the stars was just the beginning, we climbed to the top of Temple 4 and setled down to watch the sun rise. Finally decided to learn some Spanish and attempt to stop our pathetic mumblings, we had an eventful journey to San Pedro involving the most dangerous driver ever who sped along the hairpin bends with wild abandon and not budging for anyone, a rough boat ride in which we got soaked to the skin and a final soggy trudge up a big old hill. Antigua is a beautiful and elegant colonial town, the highlight of the stay was the trip up Volcan Pacaya which oozed with red hot lava. The trip was unlike anything that would ever be allowed in the UK, health and safety were just not issues and we happily clambered over the boiling lava and razor sharp rocks in the dark... After a 3 gour drive down the most windey roads in the world and over beautiful mountain scenery we arrived at El Retiro in Lanquin, truely a backpackers paradise, nestled in a beautiful valley. 2 days were spent enjoying the friendly atmosphere, delectable food and gorgeous kitten.
