Ian & Claire's Adventure
We arrived in Perht and gained 3 hours back!
We spent a while at the airport finding a hostel then got a taxi into town.
Perth is really nice, the weather is great, the green bits are like bushland, there are some great old buildings and it feels pretty laid back. Its in the middle of no-where. It also has a great free bus service throughout town.
As it happened that night there was a concert for the Tsunami relief on the forshore that evening. We wandered down and watched a cool but bizarre mix of music and drama and dance, including golden girls tap dancing, young new bands, some famous irish dancers, the penultimate act was a Roy Orbison tribute guy from Canada (aparently famous but definitely awful, not the impression just the music) and the star was Hank Marvin! very funny to watch in his bright shirt and specs, the crowd went wild and we left after Apachi, sorry no autograph dad.
The next day was a Sunday so we did what we were told and got the train to Freemantle (Freo) for a sunday session. Its a great subburb, a market, cool shops, cafes and microbrewery pubs. We went to a fantastic digeridoo shop and found ourselves signing up for lessons for the next evening. Very exciting, it was 40degrees.
We went to the indian embassy the next morning as we were worried there'd be huge queues, to find it empty, easy as anything.
We then checked into a much nicer hotel (the other one was pretty grotty) this time for the same price we had a huge room with a fan that worked properly. Then we pottered, went to some travel places to look at Nepal trecking, too expensive but good ideas etc.
We then went back to freo for our didge lesson. It was great. Tim our teacher was really good he explained all the techniques etc. We both did really well apparently. It was difficult to tell as there was an african drum lesson above and all 9 of us were didgereedooing at the same time. Ian was great at the animal noises though and my drone was improving lots by the end and we both undertsand the concept of cicular breathing, we just need to buy a drainpipe to practice. We are feeling pleased with ourselves.
After a long requested lie in we walked in to Northbridge to take a look around. We went to a didge shop but the arsy french owner music snob made us leave sharply. We then went to a gallery to look at some aboriginal art exhibition and that was really goo. We then went up to kings park with a sandwich and looked out over Perth, there are superb views from up there.
We rushed back for the Agassi Federra match but it wasnt worth it, very dissapointing.
tomorrow id Australia day, so we're heading down to the foreshore with a picnic to watch the fireworks, second to the new year ones in Sydney.......hope so
