Ian & Claire's Adventure
We decided to leave Pallolem and head back to Arambol. We much preferred the chilled out hippy feel and had met a wholesaler to do some business with. We started early to catch the first of 4 buses. The first was really long and I was being sat on nearly and elbowed by people. The second was horrid, from Madgoan to panaji they were horrid and racist towards us saying if we wanted our bags on we would have to climb onto the roof and tie them on. the bus was filling up and they were yelling at us. Luckily another westerner saw our predicament and chucked a bag onto the last seat to dsave it for us. Iwas terrified the bus was going to leave and Ian would fal off. they really couldnt give a s***. We arrived at Panjim and squeezed onto a bus next to a bizarre european guy, who was passionately preching to us about environmental issues, but we couldnt understand half the stuff he said so it was hard going. We arrived in mapsa found found an ATMto get cash and then gave in and got a taxi for the last leg. We felt horrible and pissed off and sweaty dusty and tired it had been about 4 hrs. We only got a bit of cash out as Ian was reluctant to get the rest......a decision he regretted the next day when he had to get back on a bus the next day armed with both cash cards. When we arrived in Arambol it was really nice to recognise and be recognised by people. The guy from our last stay who rented us our beach huts made room for us by kicking some guy out, the owner of our favourite restaurant came to shake hands with us. The guy we said we\'d do business with (vaguely with no promises) was waiting for us and fed us chai and was all excited about hisnew shipments etc.
The next day was all business, choosing our stock and calculating it all out. We decided to stay for a week to wait for a delivery of bags but also because I had been struck with bad crohns and need to rest and decide if I could carry on. The week was filled with days off reading in hammocks and walking along the beach and swimming etc. Ou work days were filled with choosing stock and we met a guy who turned out to own a factory up north, his stuff is really good quality and he\'s set up to do business over email and wouldnt need us to return.
We\'ve also been brainstorming the design of products, something we\'d really like to try back home, to stimulate our technical and creative design heads. Its been good fun.
One morning we went to sit by the sea and saw a school of dolphins right near the beach. One night we finally tried indian wine, two bottles and got drunk, on the way home we found a tiny weak starving kitten and proceeded to feed it milk and biscuits and worry like mad, it turned out someone had left it ion the hammocks at our place and our landlord had been feeding it. we felt a little foolish... The dogs and cats here are really nice, and only a few are maingey, the dogs have been castrated by the rspca equivalent and all run around in packs, one barks and they all start howling and pelting it down the beach. The minor birds are horrid they squark loudly all day and night. We had our own toddy (coconut liquour) waller, he\'s an old guy who climbs up dozens of palms a day collecting sap. Other than the guy who grebs and spits all the time (especially when your eating) and the mosquitos and isrealis this place is great. We have a local restaurant called the smile of buddha we go there nearly every day it does great tandoori fish for 2 quid for both of us and fish-curry-rice for 50p and special goan thali. Our place (residensea owned by sanjay) does the best chicken biriyani and banana pancakes.
The weather is getting bad though, more overcast and humid, loads more mozzies, must be coming up to monsoon season. We promise to come back here.
