Ian & Claire's Adventure
We caught teh governemnt run sleeper bus to Ajmer near to Pushkar. We had no real faith as no-one seamed to trust the baggage guy and a fight broke out but they were there when we arrived. Unfortunately is was 4am when we arrivd in Ajmer so got a rickshaw straight to pushkar hoping for a the public bus station to be open. We got taxed on the way in by some scumbags but were in no position to argue. We ended up paying for the entire night in a cheap hotel with a room full of mozzies so we could rest until daylight.
Later we walked around and found most of the better places full but finally paid over teh odds for a decent room.
Pushkar is quite tourity and full on, lots of market stalls, lovely ghats round the lake. Holy men and not so holy men trying to get you to pay for blessings and all sorts of stuff.
Theres a huge temple, its a pilgramage site, loads of wandering cows and monkeys (one ran right past our room). theer aremany rooftop restaurants which is great for escaping the bustle and watching from above. Unfotunately teh food is pretty bad here and its renownd for being hygeneically dodgy. This place is fithly, rubbish, food and cow s*** everywhere, that and teh fact that indians areconstantly phlegming everywhere makes it a dangerous place to walk. Its very hot now, well into the 40's in the hottest part of the day. we did find one really nice restaurant called the moon dance where teh people are supprisingly friendly and has a really nice setting. Generally the people are indifferent to us.
As everyting is gathered around teh lake it is a beautiful setting for a sunset which we took in at the very fancy Pushkar Palace Hotel terrace.
Wewon't have many memerries of this place as everything is banned here. Including photographs along with beer, smoking, meat and eggs ( we are still wondering how we are getting banana pancakes for breakfast)
