Ian & Claire's Adventure
We went to the airport to pay for our flight change, and to drop off some luggage (the joy of no terrorist scares so lockers available) .We then caught the bus to Lautoka, a great journey through villages and sugar cane plantations. The journey was colourful as always, real characters getting on and off. The kids sit up, turn around to look at us and smile. This part of the island is heavily indo-fijian as they work and run the plantations. We arrived in Lautoka and found our hotel (Cathay) a good room, and dived into the pool.
That night we went into town but everything was shut so we went to Jolly Good's takeaway on the way back, aparently there had just been a sugar cane factory, so they were having a day off. We had to walk through the red-light district (interestingly more male and transvestite than women). We hurried back, not feeling particularly safe.
The next day we took our washing to the laundrette, after a wild goose chase to find it. We then went to an internet cafe to start writing up our journal. After 6 hours and two trips by Ian to the laundry, to argue about our now pink clothes, we packed up and went for a swim and to chill out.
Lautoka is full of a repitition of Indian tat shops, a large produce market and a small craft market.
