Ian & Claire's Adventure
Tavewa Island – Coral View Resort
We Spent 6 hours in the rain on the big Awesome Adventure Catamaran out to the Yasawas.
After we were offloaded to a small boat when we heard Coral View being called out we arrived at a little island where we were greeted by a bunch of people singing a lovely song – Bula Welcome song on the beach.
We first went and met Seva, a huge very camp Fijian bloke, very funny. He told us to pitch up at then end under the shelter. We went over and there was our own little Bure shelter, we were really chuffed this place seemed really nice, all the staff were so friendly, and we’d already met Sophie and Natalie on the transfer who seemed nice too.
This place was lovely, we met lots of really nice people, Lisa and Dom who are moving to Auckland for 2 years (meeting up with them soon). Helen and Tom, Vicky and Kevin who we’re meeting in Sydney. Sophie who slept all the time, we went on a nice walk with her which ended up being a bit stressful as we ran out of time on the last day, after falling over (Claire) and hurting my ankle, ended up running up the hill through head high grass which was giving us paper cuts and slipping down the steep hill to pack our tent just in time for our farewell song. We also met a nice American couple from NZ , the lady took us snorkeling off the top beach, it was great, saw loads of fish.
We went to Fanny’s tea shop for banana cake and tea, down the beach.
One night we got drunk on Rum with Helen etc and had some Kava with Nico(the entertainment guy) who was also drunk as he’s taken Penny and Mikey (from NZ/England) for cocktails. It all got a bit messy and we regretted it the next day.
The women working there were great, especially Wati who was everyone’s mum, made us tea a couple of times.
We went on a walk to the top of the island, it had beautiful views of the ocean and the other islands, there were huge fruit bats which looked like birds of prey. We spotted our island, a cute tiny island with a beach just enough for 2!
We both played volleyball one night, then Ian was loving it, played for ages the next day. There was a great little boy who was the ball boy, great at all sports, speed daemon.
We had a coconut demo with Joshua who let us taste all the different ripenesses, the juice was lovely.
We were really sad to leave this place after 4 nights, it really felt like home
