We have been travelling inland for some time now, through drought affected areas of NSW and today just crossing the border into Qld. The roads are often shared with cattle being moved to where they can find feed. The herd we have in our photos are from 300kms away. The cattle graze the sides of the road and where possible land that is around picnic areas, camping areas etc. We shared Bonshaw Weir camp area not only with the cattle, but with the drovers, their 6 dogs, their horse and all their camping gear. The main drover had his 11 year old grandson with him for the weekend droving, the kid was amazing. So confident on the horse and moving the cattle, and obviously experienced on the quad bike as well. He was dressed just like his grandad, boots, jeans, long sleeved checked shirt, and of course, the hat. Allen and friends of ours pretended to be drovers and had to wear their cowboy hat as well lol. The two guys were moving cows from camp now and then and one of the dogs would jump up and assist them, it was so funny.
We stayed at Bonshaw Weir for three days and the weather was so hot. The dam was swimmable but I didnt enjoy the water as the bottom was uneven and there was slimey weed in it. The phone reception was very poor and the computer was out of the question.
Today, Monday 10th February, (hey its my birthday tomorrow!!), we travelled on and crossed the NSW/QLD border into Texas. It was a very short trip and we arrived before we started lol. To explain, we had to wind back our clocks an hour because of the lack of daylight saving in QLD. It has been extremely hot today and late this afternoon a very short storm went through - with no rain!! Poor farmers.
