Day 6 - Perth - 24 April 2017
Today was the last day of our Perth trip. After breakfast, we packed our stuff and set off at about 9am.
We drove to King's Park which was only about a couple of minutes away from where we stayed (Burswood). As it was a huge park, we drove around and parked near Roe Gardens. We got down and snapped some pictures and explored the area a bit before heading back to our car.
Next, we drove to the Botanic Garden of King's Park. We roamed around the area, fed some cute little ducklings with bread and simply just enjoyed the view of the pond and fountain against the backdrop of the vastness of greens and the clear blue sky. However, its therapeutic effect lasted only for minutes when we discovered......
Someone had SMASHED our car window (passenger seat) and our harvesack was being stolen. Thankfully, the bag contained kids' stuff like pampers, extra clothings, sanitizer, water bottles etc. I don't know how the thief felt but if I were him, I'd have considered it a failed mission. Haha! Good Samaritans stopped by to show concern and render help by getting the staff of King's Park to assist us. Within minutes, a lady staff came and recorded this unfortunate incident in her report and advised us to call the police. We did just that and after that, we drove to Hertz (near Perth Airport) to report the said incident to them too. A real but an unwelcomed kind of adventure! Well, it was our last day anyway and none of our mood was dampened by this saga.
At Hertz, we were given a bigger car in exchange for Sorento ie Carnival. Bigger boot space which means that we would be able to stuff all our luggages at the boot. Not a bad deal! And a blessing in disguise. But, on a serious note, I thank God for His protection that we were all kept safe.
It was about noon time and it was time for lunch. Crown was in our original plan but en route to it, we saw KFC along the road and a quick decision was made; everyone just agreed to settle for KFC. At about 115pm, we left KFC for Burswood Park where the kids enjoyed their last dose of fun at its playground before heading back to Singapore.
Before we drove back to our apartment to pick up our luggages, we drove to Curtin University of Technology and Erica Underwood (Curtin's hostel) where I had my moment of reminiscence of the time that I was here some more than 15 years ago. Nothing seemed to have change from my vague recollection. I remembered crossing the road from Erica Underwood to the Curtin campus everyday. On some days, I would casually stroll to school; on other days, I would walk hastily because I was late. It was still that same road.....
Ok... Back to reality now. We drove to Hertz to return our car and check in our luggages at the airport. From then, it was just whiling time away until we boarded our plane to head back home to Singapore. As I pen this entry on the plane, I don't think there will be anything that I can honestly say that I will miss about Perth but one thing for sure, I will miss the family time together - with my wife, my kids and my folks. This was the main reason why we planned this trip and I am glad we did it.
