Day 2 - Perth - 20 April 2017
We had breakfast at our cosy apartment, with bread and coffee that would perk us up to get us ready for the day. After breakfast, we set off at about 820am towards Caversham wildlife park. It was only about a half an hour drive before we arrived at Caversham.
First thing first, we had to greet the Koalas. One of them was even ready to take pictures with those who willingly queue up and amongst the visitors, our family couldn't miss out on such wonderful opportunity. We managed to gently stroke its wholly fur too.
Next was picture with the wombat and other animal encounters such as owl and snake (I shudder at the thought of even touching one). We briefly covered the area and left for the Molly's farm where the farm show awaited us. Sheep shearing, whip cracking and cow milking were amongst the interesting activities that happened at the farm show. Both the kids (this time) were more sporting when it came to cow milking as they voluntarily lined up for their turn without much persuasion from us.
Our last activity at Caversham was to visit the kangaroos. How can we miss that especially when we are in Australia! Near the entrance to the area where all the kangaroos were, there was a bin-like container that had the kangaroos' food inside. All of us, except my parents, cupped our hands and digged as much food for the kangaroos as we possibly could and ventured off to feed them. Yu was pretty courageous as he went off himself to approach the kangaroos to attempt to feed them; one after another, he seemed determined to complete his task responsibly. Some were perhaps full and didn't seem interested in the food that was in his tiny hands. Some (gratefully) ate them. Le was a little uncomfortable but I guess probably because of the feeling of having the kangaroos feeding off his hand. But he still wanted to feed them and tried his best to wave at the kangaroos and then threw the food in front of them. Some didn't notice it while others appreciated his gesture.
We had lunch at Mash Brewing. It was a children-friendly place with a small corner of the restaurant demarcated for kids' play. It even had an outdoor area where diners were allowed to borrow soccer ball to play outside. Food was not too bad. We had fish and chips.
We left Mash Brewing at about 130pm and set off to Whistler's Chocolate Company. A great place to shop for (of course) chocolates! I had initially thought that there would be a factory where they will show us how the chocolates are made. But, unfortunately, no. It was just an area for getting gifts and chilling out. We left after spending about 15 minutes there.
Lavender Bistro was next (under Paul See's high recommendation). Paul had recommended the lavender ice cream which he claimed is life-changing. After the first taste of it, I fully concurred with him. We ordered the vanilla and lavender's ice cream and all of us enjoyed them to their fullest.
Kids were getting a little cranky so we drove back to our apartment. All of us took our naps for about two hours before we headed out to do some supermarketing and to have our dinner.
Dinner was at Wang's Asian Cuisine. As the name suggests, it was Chinese food that we had. My parents were happy because it was Chinese food and we were too. We ordered three dishes along with the rice.
We were back at the apartment before 8pm. One of the awesome advantage of this apartment is that it is relatively near to wherever places that we will be going in this trip (ok, barring from any spontaneous surprises that we will throw at ourselves in the next few days). The longest drive won't even exceed one hour. We had some relaxing time with the kids, eating fruits and listening to music (played from my iPhone's music library). At 9pm, we got the kids ready for bed. It was an enjoyable day.
