Seen a lot of the mens surfing, they are now up to round 4. Met a girl at the campsite who came over to me at Bells after a free surf and gave me a VIP pass so I could get into the VIP stands to watch the surfing. Only later on after she had already left the campsite, I found her name in the rip curl surfing magazine they've been giving out as one of the Australian Groms finalists!
The people who own the campsite made their son, Marcus, take me out to see some of the sights around here. We drove to see a coal mine, which is apparently one of the biggest in the world or something. We then went to see the Lighthouse from the 'Around the Twist' TV show and some Kangaroos on the Anglesea golf course. We could stand about a metre away before the would run off. After that we drove along the Great Ocean Road to see the views and how the scenery changes and then drove back and climbed down a path in the forest to a waterfall.
A family from South Africa came over to me when I was near the Bird Rock Bar because they recognised me from the campsite and introduced themselves, Ian, Tracy and their kids Josh and Jess. They are emmigrating from South Africa but have only come over with 20kg luggage and are camping until they find a house here. They are really into surfing and cyling and have taken me out twice now to teach me how to surf on Jan Juc beach, which has been awesome.
I am getting to see a lot of the beaches around here as the Mens competition keeps moving around to find the best waves so I have seen Bells, 13th Beach and another one called Winkipop. Today is a Lay day as they only have the quaterfinals, semis and finals to go so they are waiting for some good waves hopefully at Bells to run the rest of the competition.
This afternoon I am going into Torquay town to look at the Surf museum and surf shops.
