On the morning of the 29th I went to Melbourne train station just before it started to rain. I don't think they have had much rain there for a while as the roof was leaking and water was running down all the pillars and making massive puddles. Took a train and then a bus that dropped me at the very edge of Jan Juc so had to trek 2.5km with my backpack in 30 degrees heat.
Got to the campsite and set up my tent, which is so big inside for a one man tent. Since then I have been to Bells beach everyday to watch the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Tournament. Currently they are just doing the Womens and the Groms. Met a couple called Amber and Pete at Birdrock bar on the 31st and they told me a lot about Melbourne and are going to drop a bike off for me next week so that I don't have to walk 2km to Bells and back everday. They also work in Melbourne so they are going to show me around a bit when I go back.
Last night I met Chris Davidson (One of the surfers in the comp) at Bird Rock Bar and his friends. They got me into the Rip Curl Media Party at the Rip Curl HQ for the world, which was awesome and free drinks all night. After we went to the Tracks House which is where the Tracks Magazine (one of the big magazines in OZ) people are staying. They had a spa pool and everything. I watched a very funny game of couch jumping which ended up with lots of drunk people consistantly misjudging the distance and either missing the sofa or going over the back of it. It was such an awesome party.
Today it rained all morning so stayed at the campsite most of the day. Tomorrow there are meant to be some good waves so will hopefully go and watch the men start their competition.

Joy Sounds as though you are having a good time and finding it easy to meet people. As Di says, would be great to be young again and have the opportunity, so make the most of it.
louise LOL at the drunk sofa comp - glad to hear lots of people are helping you out. I'm wondering whether "Groms" might be australia slang for Grandparents...i'm hoping... Make sure you're eating/drinking enough with all this walking in the sunshine! Keep having fun xxx
Lorenzo the beach looks like a postcard, dont forget to tell them where you caught your first wave, and groms is short for grommets, which are young surfers....when used in a sentence..."Hey, watch me drop in on these groms" lol peace from the other Melbourne
