Hi, first blog entry for the trip and already done so much in the last few days. Flew from Heathrow at 10pm on 24th March and arrived in Kuala Lumpur 12 hours later. I Sat next to a very nice woman on the plane who introduced me to a family (Peter, Beryll and Dawn) who were catching the same transfer flight. They wanted to make sure I got through the airport and made it to the next plane so we had a drink in a cafe and met an Irish couple they already knew. We then spent the next 2 and a half hours chatting and waiting for the next flight.
The 2nd flight was good, there weren't many people so I could stretch out over 2 seats to sleep. We had Ferrero Rocher for one pudding so I saved 1 went to sleep and woke up with 4 next to me, not idea how that happened! By this time I was very confused about which meal I was actually eating as I seemed to have missed a breakfast and had and extra dinner somewhere!
Finally the plane arrived at 9.30am in Sydney and I got through customs no problems but I did see they were filming the Nothing to Declare for TV. I was then met by Sherrie and went to her house to drop of my stuff. She then dropped me with her son (Andrew) as she had to work. We drove to his girlfriends (Sopia) house in his Mazda RX8 (very nice car). Sopia's family were from Cambodia so her parents didn't speak much English and er little brother wouldn't say a word to me but insited on playing cars with me.
After that they took me to see wome of the Western Sydney University and then we went bowling with Sopia's brother Seta and their friend Wayne. After bowling which I seemed to come 4th in every game we went to Pho a Vietnamese restaurant to eat and then went home to sleep.
Slept in till about 10 and then Sherrie took me into Sydney. We parked in Star City Casino (Very posh, very big) and walked to Darling Harbour and saw a Thailand Festival. After this we went to the Chinese Gardens which were very pretty. We then caught a boat to Sydney Harbour to see the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. After a lot of walking we decided to take the train, got lost, walked a lot more and finally founf the monorail so we could see the city from higher up. We then drove to Liverpool and ate dinner in a steak house and went to my bus stop to get my Greyhound bus at 8.55pm to Melbourne.
Once on the bus there was very little room and we stopped once after Canberra at a 24hour roadside cafe at 3.30am to stretch our legs for half an hour. At 8am we arrived in Melbourne, I dropped my bags at Nomads Industry Hostel and walked around the city till I could check in at 12. Off to the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Tournament tomorrow at Bells Beach Torquay :)
