The Melbourne Crime tour was good fun. We got picked up by a guy wearing a prison suit and a balaclava. We went to see a lot of the crime sites around Melbourne including a lot of the gang fights that have been acted on the first series of Underbelly. After about 3 hours we drove back to the Melbourne gaol and got arrested in the watchtower. We were screamed at a lot and called names and locked up in a cell for about 5 minutes before they let us out to look at the rest of the prison like the yards and padded cell. This had real footprints on the ceiling. The watchtower was last used in 1994 which is crazy looking at the condition of the cells.
I then went round the gaol and saw a lot of the death masks and Ned Kelly's death mask and the gallows. This trip also got me free entry to the watchtower again so I got arrested for a 2nd time.
On the walk back to the hostal I passed Dracula's Cabaret. It looked good fun so I booked a ticket for the evening. The evening was great. A scary looking guy greeted you at the door and then took you to the bar. Here you could get scary looking cocktails and then went on a ghost train ride. Ithen arrived at the restuarant and had a 3 course dinner and the pudding was a chocolate coffin with passion fruit and ice ream inside. Yum! My waiter was called Xander and was very funny. In between the courses the 4 main vampires sang some songs and introduced everyone in the audience by shining a spotlight on tables and telling everyone else where the people came from and why they were here (birthdays etc.). They then started the main show which was a mixture of music, comedy and magic. One guy played a lot of the horror film theme tunes on a laser harp, which you could only see in the dark. Half way throught the show a screen came down and they showed peoples reactions on the ghost train which was very funny to watch.
The day after I visited the Melbourne gallery and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image which were very interesting. The last night in the hostel the people I had met and been out with had a birthday party for one of the guys so we had a big BBQ and went out. I then got up at 5.30 am to get the Adventure Tours bus to Adelaide.
First of all we went to Torquay to get a coffee for breakfast but unfortunately the Chocolate room wasn't open yet so we had to go to the other cafe which was not as good. We then went along the Great Ocean Road and stopped in Anglesea for lunch. After that we went Koala spotting and saw some very close up and some colourful birds. The Otway tree top walk was next, unfortunately it was drizzling so we didn't see many animals apart from the fake dinosaurs but the rainforest was very pretty. We then watched the sunset over the 12 apostles before going to our first nights accomodation in Princetown where there is a population of 17 people. Here they had over 100 DVDs so we picked 3 but only managed to watch 2 before everyone went to bed.
The next day we saw Loch Ard Gorge where there was the Loch Ard shipwreck with only 2 survivors and the Loch Ard graveyard where some of the people were buried. Then two of the guys and I took a helicopter ride over the 12 Apostles and the other rock formation like the London Bridge that fell down recently. We then went to see some waterfalls and some of the lookout points in the Grampians before settling into our 2nd nights accomodation in Halls Gap.
Here they put the 3 boys in a cabin and the 5 girls in a 2 storey house. We were cooked spaghetti for dinner and then got beanbags and duvets and pillows downstairs to watch DVDs. Andrea, Ron, Adam and I all stayed there and fell asleep by the fire but the guys returned to their cabin at some point in the night.
The next day we climbed Hollow Mountain, saw the Pink Lake which is very salty and saw white Albino Kangaroos. We then made the rest of the journey to Adelaide.
