Holly's and Helly's BIG adventure!!
Well, we have finally made it to our final destination in our great Europe adventure! The last train journey was completed today, Madrid to Seville, only 2 and half hours, but on a very comfortable train indeed, honestly the Spanish know how to do trains! The Inter-rail tickets run out tomorrow so unfortunatly we can't spontaneously take off somewhere else, but from what we have seen Seville looks beautiful!
Madrid was good, as a place we weren't going to go at all, I was quite pleasantly surprised, although the lack of air conditioning in our hostel didn't make for very pleasant nights, far too hot! Thought we would be able to make full use of Madrid as a capital city and indulge in some serious shopping, but unfortunatly it just isn't that good on the retail therapy front, never mind, we did go and see The Shaggy Dog in spanish, didn't understand a word of it, but managed to follow the story and still find it amusing! Our second day was spent seperatly in the morning, I went to the Museo Prado, which I was actually really impressed with, they had an amazing Picasso exhibition, with paintings I studied in Art History last year, always nice to see them for real. Met up with Helen in the afternoon and we went off in search of a market the Lonely Planet raved about, unfortunatly for us it only runs on Sundays, a fact that didn't deem important enough to write in nice big capital bold letters! The evening was lovely, our hostel was about 50 metres from the Palacio Real, which is amazingly beautiful and has impressive gardens. We ate dinner in a cafe overlooking it, was lovely even if we did pay more for the view!
Today has been quite lazy on account of train travel and all that jazz. Checked out of our hostel and made our way to the station on the metro, handily a metro station was about 20metres from our hostel, marvellous! Madrid Atocha station is very airport like, it has a departure lounge, very swanky, and also lots and lots of escalators, which since joining the backpacker club i have fallen in love with! Arrived in Seville at 3.30 to bright sun and simmering heat, aroun 39 degrees i think, roasting! But lovely anyway, justified a taxi to the hostel purely for the fact that it is the 'last place' but it was only 8euros, only a bit more than we would have paid for the bus! Going to spend our time in Seville in a more relaxed fashion, sightsee, wander round, shop (of course!) see some flamenco (I am particularly excited about this!) and eat yummy food, it is the last place after all! xx
