Holly's and Helly's BIG adventure!!
So here we are almost at the end of our stay in Prague, again another beautiful city, although my heart is still with Stockholm! We arrived at the main train station at 6 in the morning and found that the hostel we were going to stay at wouldn't let us in until 11, slight hitch! We decided to find somewhere else and ended up at a school masquerading as a hostel for just 5 pounds each, in a bit of a dodgy area but fine for our one night! After spending the morning sleeping we were that tired we set off to explore Prague and get an idea of where things were, it took us a while but eventually we figured out that the giant road with Debenhams and Marks and Spencer (yes in Prague!) was actually St Wenceslas Square, my initial reaction "it's not really a square is it, more of a rectangle!" the name is very very decieving! After the initial excitement of something so familiar and British had worn off we set off for the Old Town Square, which is stunning, quite literally. We sat in the square to have some lunch and it was nice to just sit there and people watch. We made our way back to the hostel early and read, wrote postcards and wrote journal entries until we had to stop through exhaustion, honestly this travelling malarky is very tiring!
This morning we had to be checked out by 9am, something we both objected to partly because it meant getting up and ready early again! After a disappointing breakfast compared to all the others we have had in other hostels we set off to leave our bags in lockers at the railway station (never before have i appreciated these lockers, but now, im so glad they exist!!) We walked along to St Wenceslas Square and down across to Charles Bridge, which although beautiful, was heaving with other tourists (yes, i know we are tourists as well!) and it is so hot today! We walked up to Prague Castle, which was rather a trek in the heat and just walked around admiring the architecture, i just can't believe some of the buildings we have seen were built before cranes etc to make the job easier! Decided to pay to go in the different buildings, and spent a good 4 hours just wandering around admiring everything and also people watching, an activity we could do for hours! However after a while we moved on and continued with our tour of the castle, coming down the hill on the side offers amazing views of the city, something we didn't appreciate so much on the way up (im sure there must be an easier way to get up to the castle!) Currently trying to find things to do until our train which leaves at 11 this evening, i think we have both seen a lot of Prague in the short time we have been here, but would like to come back and stay in a more upmarket area (not a hint at all!) Until Budapest or Greece, lots of love xxxx
