Yulara - Saturday, 9th April to Friday, 15th April.
When Uluru first came into sight we all started high-fiving each other and cheering…we were very excited. There had been plenty of anticipation for this part of our trip…and we were finally here.
My third time to Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Juta (The Olgas) and it continues to amaze me.The last time Roy and I were here was pre-children (actually I was two months pregnant with Max), so it was nice to be back sharing the experience with the boys. They couldn't believe the size of Uluru.Archie kept saying "how big is it".
Robyn and Roy arrived on Tuesday. The boys were overwhelmed with excitement when we met them at the airport. It was so good to see them and spend the next few days together.
We watched the sunset on Uluru. We had a beautiful clear sky so the colours were awesome. We met Steve Liebman who was filming a documentary…he chatted to Archie and gave him a high five after admiring his cowboy hat.Oh yeah, that reminds me…Archie has changed his name to "Roy" (can you believe it!!!).He was sick of people asking him his name and them not being able to understand him saying "Archie"…so he wanted a different name…and quickly settled on "Roy".So when Steve Liebman asked him his name…he replied "Roy"…I had to hold back the laughter.
We also did the Ranger Walk (partly around Uluru). It was fantastic and we all learnt so much about the history and significance of this amazing sacred Aboriginal site.We gained a much better understanding of why the Aboriginal people don't want you to climb Uluru. So out of respect to them…we didn't.It was good for the boys to hear it from the Ranger as when we arrived they wanted to climb it.
We also went to Kata Juta (equally as spectacular as Uluru). We started out doing the "Valley of the Winds" walk but Max wasn't feeling 100% so I turned back with him while Roy, Robyn, Roy and Archie continued on.The walk wasn't without a little mishap…Robyn took a fall…split her lip, grazed her nose and hurt her shoulder and finger (I believe she had just swallowed a fly…talking too much you ask…well, I'm not sure).Roy said it could have been very nasty.
We enjoyed dinner out with Robyn and Roy and the boys loved the use of their beautiful hotel pool.
Overall we had a terrific time at Uluru. It was sad to say goodbye to Robyn and Roy.The boys asked "when are you coming to visit us again?"
