Kings Canyon - Friday, 15th April to Sunday, 17th April.
Just as I remembered…the spectacular Kings Canyon…the campground…the pool…I even remembered the exact spot Roy and I pitched our tent.
We weren't sure whether we would do the entire Rim Walk with the boys as everyone was feeling a little tired after such an exciting and exhausting time at Uluru. But it was too hard to resist…we did it…and the boys did great. It took just over three hours and while Archie walked most of the way…he did opt for the backpack towards the end.
Last time Roy and I were here it wasn't so green. This time the contrast between the blue sky, the orange rock formations and the green vegetation was even more beautiful than I remembered.Every angle could have been captured on a postcard.
Roy took every opportunity to explain the "sedimentary" rock formations…along with the all exciting "cross bedding" that was so distinct. The boys were very interested with the geology at the start but unfortunately their enthusiasm dwindled.
Afterwards, we all had a nap and then enjoyed a well deserved dip in the pool.
While at Kings Canyon we saw two dingoes in the campsite and plenty of dingoes howling during the night. On our way from Uluru we also saw three Thorny Devils on the road.Unfortunately, they ran off before we had time to stop and show the boys.
