We got up and had a little breakfast. We got on the car and first stopped at the Roosevelt Arch to take a few photos and then Matt stopped at the Mammoth General Store to buy cinnamon rolls. He really likes these cinnamon rolls that are made in Lovell, WY, and sold at Yellowstone so he always get them.
We then drove the Mammoth Upper Terrace Drive and continued south and stopped at the Obsidian Cliff exhibit, which mentioned Ohio. Then we stopped at Roaring Mountain. Continuing south we stopped at Norris Geyser Basin and walked the boardwalk. We also stopped and waited awhile for Steamboat Geyser to go off but it never did. It could erupt anywhere between 4 days to 50 years.
Then we stopped at a picnic area called Iron Springs and fixed lunch. It was the exact same spot we fixed lunch 3 years ago at Yellowstone. The boys climbed on the rocks and when we finished eating they pretended to be rock climbing guides and had Matt and I climb the rocks. They call it, "The Rock Climbing School."
Driving further south, we stopped at Grand Prismatic Spring and walked the boardwalk. Then got back in the car and drove to Old Faithful. The area was either shut down for the season or shut down due to COVID. The visitor center, bookstore and lodge were closed. Part of the trail was even closed so we walked the Geyser Hill and waited for Old Faithful. We got back to Old Faithful and sat on the benches and waited about 10 minutes for it to go off. Seth was so excited to see it go off. He jumped up and down and clapped. Liam was extremely interested and kept his eyes on it.
It was starting to get dark but we stopped at Grant but everything was closed for the season so we headed to Canyon Village and stopped at the Eatery and picked up dinner. Due to COVID we couldn't eat inside so we ate in the car. And the boys were asked if they wanted to wear masks and they said, "No, thank you." We also got a few souvenirs at the gift shop.
Now it was dark so we checked in at the Canyon Lodge and stayed in the Moran building. The room was small and the lights would only work if you put the keycard in a special slot on the wall. We took showers and went to bed.
