We got up and drove over to the Canyon Eatery to get hot water to make instant oatmeal. Then we drove the south rim of the Canyon and stopped at Tom's Overlook and Artist's Point to see the Yellowstone Falls.
We drove out the East entrance of the park, which is one of the best drives. We made it to Cody, WY, and then had to stop to eat pizza at Millstone Pizza Co. which is where we ate three years ago when we visited Yellowstone.
On our way across Wyoming we went over the Bighorn Mountains and almost underestimated how much gas we needed. According to our math we had enough gas to get to the next town but the Powder River Pass was 9,666 feet high and took more gas than what was calculated. We barely made it to Buffalo. Matt was barely breathing and Seth was extremely nervous. We put 19.5 gallons of gas in the car.
After that excitement, we rolled into Gillette, WY, and checked in our hotel. The room they gave us had an issue with its smoke detector and they had to come in twice to fix it. Once when we were there and later when we came back and realized it wasn't fixed. We had to get out of the room because the boys had a lot of energy so we got in the car to drive to the local park and let them run around. When we got close to the park I saw a BMX race about to begin and Liam immediately wanted to go watch it.
We sat and watched the entire BMX race, which was at least an hour long. And during it, the parents and race organizers talked to us and said the boys could try the track out after the race. You know they wanted to real bad. I made Seth promise me that he wouldn't actually race and that he would just enjoy the track. So after the official race was over, all three boys got to ride their bikes on the track. Liam and Seth went around at least five times but probably more. Matt went around three times and said it was tiring. Seth talked about BMX racing the entire night and Liam looked like he was having the time of his life. The race organizers even gave the boys keepsakes and encouraged them to find a track at home. The experience has convinced Matt to "never leave home without your bike."
Afterwards we ordered take-out at Qdoba (yeah, I couldn't handle pizza another day) and took it back to our hotel room and this is when we found out the smoke detector was working properly. We ate our dinner and went to bed.
