We got up, ate breakfast and I started packing. The boys worked on their memory work for school. Matt worked. I got everything packed by 1 and we left Idaho Falls around 1:15.
We drove southwest and stopped briefly in American Falls but there was nothing to see. Soon afterwards we had to stop at a rest stop so Seth could use the restroom and we spotted signs for an historical marker. We took the paved trail that was probably half a mile long and wound under the highway and to the other side. Once we got there we saw the ruts left from the Oregon Trail. It was pretty amazing to think of those people and what motivated them to travel such a distance in harsh environments. There are journal entries posted on signs from people during that time period that traveled the Oregon Trail that described the environment and how the animals suffered from the mosquitoes and how the sagebrush was difficult to get through. I think reading those out loud the boys got a better appreciation for the people and animals. Liam felt real bad for the horses because of the mosquitoes torched them.
Then we drove to Anderson Camp near Eden. It is an RV park on the side of the highway. It is extremely loud here but the only place we could find at the last minute because our Airbnb was cancelled. We are also nearer to wild fires so it is smoky here and we are pretty sure that ash is falling from the sky. I made tacos and rice on our camp stove. And the guy camping next to us walked over and talked to us a lot. We were aloud to have a campfire but it was a small one which the boys were not use to. They wanted to build an "Ohio" fire — the kind that gets and keeps you warm.
We then crawled in our tent and tried to fall asleep to the sound of semi trucks at full speed cruising down the highway.
