So the last blog left you all hanging on the idea of us going scooterooing! Well we did and all in all we had a massive laugh! We decided, our funds being what they are, to share a bike and drive half each. As neither of us had really ridden a scooter/motorbike before, the guy sent me off on my own to get used to while Jo was tucked safely behind an instructor. After about 20 mins all the other partner groups were allowed to get together, however we weren't. When they finally realised that Jo wanted a go driving they took her back to get her own bike.Brilliant , we thought that meant we'd paid to share and get one each, result right? NOPE! Jo didn't even make it down the driveway before she fell off, resulting in the conclusion that it wasnot her forte and she'd come on the back of mine. The next 2 hours went pretty smooth, except a few hills jo had to jump off and run after the bike because it wouldnt make it off it and when we almost went into the side of a campervan! We had a nice drive, saw a sunset over the ocean (well into acloud) and drove back. As we were parking however I decided to forget how to drive the thing, panic and send us both to the floor!! luckily jo came away untouched from this incident, having bruised herself on her incident, but I cut up my arm :( however we laughed it off and decided the experience was a fun one :)
Next day it was on to Kroombit Cattle station, this is something you can primarily only do with Oz Experience. It is a working cattle station and our first activity (after a $7 steak lunch) was to muster goats on horseback. This took a group of 20 of us about 2 hours to get the goats from the field into a pen they were meant to be in. Jo's horse was a little lazy but other than that we had well behaved ponies. After the horse riding we were to practice our lasso, both managaing to lasso ourselves in the process of learning! After that we were put in groups of 3 and had to do a Goat rodeo. One person had to chase the goat and grab it by the horns and drag back to the centre cricle (Jo), the next person had to tilt the goat on its side (steve) and the last person had to run, get the branding iron and ''brand' the goat (myself)! WE came 5th out of 7 teams! After a roast beef dinner, it was onto learning how to crack whips and the mechanical bull. Both of us only managing one buck each each time! we respectively declined to try anymore!
Then we arrived Airlie beach (after 11 hours in a bus) for our whitsunday trip. We were on the largest boat, 'The Clipper' which had 50 people on it. jo and I were adopted by 10 Irish people and we formed a little group. unfortunately most of our time on the boat was wet and we didn't get to see many of the islands. We got to onto whitehaven island and went in the sea , in our stinger suits (which stop the deadly jellyfish and stingrasy getting toyou) - which you have to wear even when paddling! On the second afternnoon we went snorkelling and got right in among the fish. One of the crew members was feeding the fish around us so they came up so c,lose and we luckily had jo's underwater disposable camera. In the evenings we played games and listened to classic songs on the ipods like YMCA and macarena! We manageed to have a fabulous couple of days even with the weather we were given. Next we are off to Magnetic Island, hoping the rain stops for us!
This is a really brierf overview of what we have been doing, look at our pictures for more of an idea!
hope everyone is well, love to all
love us xxx
