We both had a really good sleep and had breakfast at 9am, we both had baguette with soft cheese. It was fresh and tasty.
We hired a scooter out at our resort costing 170,000 VND. We headed to 'Sao Beach', the journey there took approximately 25 km, 3 of which were on paved road, the rest was on sandy, rocky, dirt roads. The journey took just under an hour. We stopped off at a Pearl Farm on the way but there was not anything to get excited about and there was a limited amount of stock.
When we arrived at 'Sao beach' we were very impressed with what we saw. The sand was intensely white and so fine it squeaked beneath our feet. The sea had three tones of colour, they were: transparent, green then blue. The sea water was so warm like bath water. This was the second best beach of this trip, Koh Rok being the first.
When we got back to our resort, we tried Vietnamese rum called 'Chanh Rhum'. We relaxed in our resort until dinner time.
For dinner we went to the 'Ocean Bar & Grill' restaurant, where we had made a reservation earlier in the day. When we got there, we were told that the chef was poorly and could not cook for us so we were recommended to go down the road to 'Chez Carole' restaurant. Jay had a bottle of 'Saigon Special' which was one of the best beers he has had and did not take long to order another one. He had grilled prawns with BBQ Sauce. This was the best prawns he has had as it was so fresh and sweet. Helen had fried fish filet with orange sauce. This was also delicious. Phu Quoc is famous for having arguably the best seafood in the world and it was no surprise that our meal was amazing. We both had shrimp and crabmeat soup to share which was piping hot and very tasty.
After dinner, Helen wanted to ring her parents so we looked for the post office as that was where the phone box was located but it was closed. We were surprised that there was not any other phone boxes around.
After this we went to explore the Night Market. The first part of the market was full of tasty looking hawker stalls thereafter it was mainly pearls and tacky souvenirs. It was a small market and did not take long for us to see it all. We got back on the scooter and headed back to our resort, on the way back we spotted a souvenir shop which looked interesting. It sold unique, handmade jewellery and textile.
Helen wanted to try traditional Vietnamese coffee and spotted a funky looking coffee shop called 'Alanis Coffee Deli'. We stopped off and Helen ordered Vietnamese ice coffee (chocolate flavour) with condense milk and Jay had a watermelon mojito cocktail. We both loved our drinks. We eventually got back and returned the scooter then relaxed by the beach listening to the waves crash with a Saigon beer.
