We woke up to monks chanting at 5am and also cats having a major cat fight haha. We then went back to sleep as we were tired. We had breakfast at the 'Khmer Family' restaurant. We both had two different set breakfast meals. Helen's one was disappointing as the bread was not toasted properly and the fruit with yoghurt was watery. Jay on the other hand had a better breakfast, which included a hot and crispy baguette with a ham omelette, grilled potato and fruit salad.
After breakfast, Jay booked our accommodation for Ho Chi Minh City, whilst Helen updated our travel blog. We also booked horse riding with the 'Happy Ranch' for this afternoon which cost 19 USD each for one hour of horse riding.
We went out for lunch before horse riding, we went to 'Nai Khmer' restaurant. Jay had fried chicken with lemon sauce and rice. Helen had fried fish with lemon sauce and rice. This was a really nice meal which tasted different as it was not made with ordinary lemon but with bitter salted lemon, it gave a unique and refreshing tang to it.
After lunch, our guesthouse owner arranged a tuk tuk to take us to the 'Happy Ranch' which took approximately 20 minutes. We went through a village on the way there, this was on a dirt track road and was a very bumpy ride.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner of the ranch who called himself 'Sherif' haha. He told us that he calls his horses 'eating machines' and has 43 of them. We had to wear helmets for the ride and Lucy from New Zealand who was working there guided us on how to get on our horses. Lucy was also our guide for the hour of horse riding. Jay's horse was called 'Star' and Helen's horse was called 'Silver'. We rode through the countryside and villages, we saw rice fields, water buffalo, cattle, ducks and lots of cute Cambodian children, the views were amazing. We also rode through a big temple, this was crowded with people as it was a Buddha Day. Jay's horse kept stopping off for some food at various points during the ride, it was also slow at walking. Lucy asked both of us if we wanted to try trotting, we both agreed and gave it a try. Helen found it fun whilst Jay was in pain (not pleasant for a man haha). Helen's horse accidently cantered which was not allowed on the first horse riding session. Lucy told us that Silver the horse likes cantering. This was our first time at horse riding and we both enjoyed the experience, it was also good to see the real Cambodian lifestyle and the beautiful countryside.
Our tuk tuk driver was waiting for us at the ranch to take us back.
For dinner, we went to the 'Le Tigre de Papier', this was an Italian restaurant located on Pub Street. Jay had the most amazing Hawaiian pizza that was cooked in a wood fired oven and had cream cheese drizzled on it. Helen had a kid's size spaghetti bolognaise as she had lost her appetite. During eating, Helen felt sick, we think this was due to heat exhaustion from the last 3 days of being in the extremely hot sun. Helen hardly ate anything.
After dinner, Helen wanted to rest in the room. We decided to pay for air conditionning for the night as it will help cool her down. It was still early in the evening so Jay went out for a couple of drinks at the 'Angkor Wat' bar. Later in the evening, Jay bumped into Laura and Jamie at this bar and they all had drinks together.
