We woke up really early at 4.30am to leave at 5am to get to the Angkor Wat Temple before sun rise. We shared a tuk tuk with Laura and Jamie again. When we got there and the sun rose, it was absolutely beautiful to watch. We also saw the reflection on the lotus pond in front of the Angkor Wat Temple.
After sunrise, the crowd dispersed and we explored the temple. After walking through and around the temple, Helen got a true idea of how big it actually is.
After seeing the Angkor Wat Temple, we all went to see some of the other famous temples. We saw the 'Bayon Temple', which is famous for the many Buddha faces. And also, 'Ta Prohm' which is famous for the 'Tomb Raider' movie and having many tree roots growing through and around the temple in an amazing and unique way.
One of the temples we visited involved climbing up steep and narrow stairs to reach the top, this was hard work as it was towards the end of the day and still extremely hot and humid.
In between seeing the temples, we all stopped off an ice cream van to get some ice lollies to cool us down. Helen was craving for an ice lolly and was very pleased when we spotted an ice cream van, haha.
We decided to finish off at this temple and not carry on seeing more as we were exhausted from the heat and had seen all the major temples. After a well deserved cold shower, we headed for dinner at a Cambodian BBQ hawker stall. Jay had BBQ chicken, rice and mango chilli sauce which was very hot and tasty. Helen had pineapple fried rice with seafood. This was delicious, it even had raisins in it which was a nice surprise and different. The chef who cooked Helen's dish was a young lad aged approximately 17-19 years old, which we were surprised about. We knew this because we sat next to the open outdoor kitchen. Whilst eating, we got chatting to a couple of Dutch girls who were looking forward to seeing Angkor Wat tomorrow.
At the end of our dinner, we tipped the waiter as he was very attentive and Helen personally thanked and complimented the chef for her tasty meal. We then went across to the Night Market to browse around and then headed back for an early night as we were shattered.
