Off the Grid - The Wilderness Days
So dear reader, We are back with you after four days away from civilisation. We travelled to Lom because Heather had seen the bakery on "The Hairy Bikers". Having filled ourselves with Bread Cake and Pizza, we slept and made our way to Gerainger, where the most beautiful fjord in Norway begins.
Here, we transferred to Kayaks and with the help of our intrepid guide, a knife wielding Dutchman and accompanied by French and Latvian women, we started to paddle the entire length of the Fjord. We stopped overnight to camp in the disused barn of an abandoned farm house, which was located 250 vertical metres above the fjord. The climb to our camp was virtually sheer. In the UK our guide would be arrested by the Safety Police and executed for " climbs against humanity". Food was cooked on an open fire and by the end of the second day we had surprisingly survived the ordeal and reached the other end of the Fjord. We were to stay off the grid for a further two days as Heather directed us via car, 4 Ferries and a bus to a lakeside cabin in the woods, somewhere in the region of Pulpit Rock ….. But more of that next time.
