Well today we arrived at Lake Mahinapua and was told that the theme for the fancy dress party would be bin bags! How on earth can you make a good costume out of bin bags, we were wondering!! Jackie came up with the idea that she wanted to make a wedding dress! 'She must be very creative' I thought and couldn't think of anything good to make myself and neither could Sara.
When we arrived at the hostel (well you couldn't call it a hostel, because the rooms were just porta cabins!), it was time to start making our outfits! Jackie started making her dress and Sara and I were still laying on the bed racking our brains trying to think of something to make. I then came up with the idea that we could be Jackies' bridesmaids. We all loved the idea and soon started coming up with a lot of creative ideas of what our dresses were going to look like. It was great and being typical girly girls were pretending we were getting Jackie ready for her actual wedding! Was quite funny. We managed to make bouquets and flowers for our hair and the end result was quite good (as you can see in the photos)
The Poo Party as it's called, because everything in the town has the word 'Pua' in it, was held in the hostel bar, and it was quite nice and had a real fire that kept us warm at first, but then made us really hot due to wearing the bin bags. We all had such a great night and everyone had put great efforts into their outfits. The guy who owns the hostel is called Les and is in his eighties! He was such a great man and joined in with some photo taking, bless him. After a bit too much to drink and putting dodgy songs on the juke box, we stumbled back to our lovely porta cabin rooms and slept in the beds that looked like they were going to cave in! I had Steve in the bunk above me and when he got in it, his mattress almost touched my head!!
The next morning was not so good and we had to get back on the bus again, all with hangovers! There was a competition with who had the best outfit, with the prize of a Canyon Swing in Queenstown. We really thought Jackie was going to win, as her dress was great, she had bouquets, and also bridesmaids!! Unfortunately she came second and a scottish guy won who was in a kilt! It was a fix though as people voted twice on the bus for him, and his girlfriend made his outfit for him! We were robbed!!
Oh well it was all great fun and the photos have given us some really great memories. It was then on to Franz Josef!
