Hi everyone, So we have been in Miles a week now. The journey down wasn't without it hitches - our greyhound broke down just out of Brisbane - well what can you expect with my bad luck at the moment! All in all it didn't workout too bad as we were only an hour late.Miles is a quiet country town about 340km inland from Brisbane. It is bigger than Dalwallinu with 3 petrol stations, 2 supermarkets, a bank, a libruary, a police station, 5 motles/hotels, 3 pubs, several shops and of course a Chinese! Lots of people pass through the town and stop to lok at the historical features, apparently they are quite an attraction. The population of the town is made up of the locals and the miners who work 3 weeks on and 1 week off. The weather has been sunny but very fresh! It can get down to zero at night - it's a good job they are coming out of their winter because we haven't packed for the cold weather. We are staying and working at the Australia Hotel, which they are just finishing renovating - everything is suppose to be finished by the end of this week. They have completely gutted it and started again - when its finished it's definately going to be the best pub in town, i will put up some photos as soon as it's done. There is going to be a huge restaurant, back bar, front bar, wine display (the manager Paul collects vintage wines), games room, cocktail bar and lounge and then 30 odd rooms. There is going to be plenty of wokr for us. It has been a bit quiet this week but we have still managed to clock up 50 odd hours each, not bad for a weeks work! Wil wait to see how fat the paycheck is today!One good thing about it being quiet is that we have had chance to watch the olympics as the bar is fitted with several plasma TVs. GBR doesn't seem to be doing too badly although its hard for us to follow their progress as they just focus on the Aussie's out here. There are 2 other backpackers working at the hotel, Victoria from Edinburgh and Rudy from London - its nice to have the company. The people of Miles all seem very friendly and like a good chat.
