La Paz.. what a crazy place!
Nuestra Señora de La Paz (Spanish: la ˈpas; English: Our Lady of Peace; Aymara: Chuquiago Marka or Chuqiyapu) is the administrative capital of Bolivia, as well as the departmental capital of La Paz Department, and the second largest city (in population) only after Santa Cruz de la Sierra. It is located in the western part of the country on the department of the same name. It is located at an elevation of 3,660 meters above sea level, making it the world's highest "de facto" capital city, or administrative capital.
As it grows, La Paz climbs the hills, resulting in varying elevations from 3,000 meters to 4,100 meters (9,840 ft to 13,450 ft). Overlooking the city is towering triple-peaked Illimani, which is always snow-covered and can be seen from several spots of the city, including from the neighbor city, El Alto. As of the 2001 census, the city had a population of 877,363.La Paz Metropolitan area, formed by the cities of La Paz, El Alto and Viacha, make the most populous urban area of Bolivia, with a population of 2.3 million inhabitants and surpassing the metropolitan area of Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
We arrived in La Paz at around 7am and surprise surprise it was raining! Jumped in a cab to the hostel but couldn´t check in till 2! So we headed for breakfast, then looked into the mountain biking down ´The workds most dangerous road´and headed to the cinema! The cinema´s are so cheap about 3pound for film, popcorn and drink, definatly not like home! We watched the Adam Sandler and JenniferAniston film (dunno what its called in English as the title was Spanish!) Good film, very funny!
After the film had finished we went back to the hostel and were able to check in, all 8 of us were in 1 room. We showered and then headed out for dinner. We went to the steak house and it was amazing! Massive steak, chips and salad for 6pound and the best steak i´ve ever had! We then headed back to the hostel bar and then headed to a local club Mongos with the rest of the hostel crew. I was so drunk! Joe decided about 3.30am that we were going to stay at the Radisson so we jumped in a cab, grabbed our stuff from the hostel and spent the night at the Radisson!
Sunday 2nd March - Hungover!
We went back to the hostel about 2pm where Craig, Abbey and Vicky were in bed hungover! We went to grab a burger king then went back to the hostel to bed all day and only ventured out to grab some dinner with Thomas, Yumi and Yvonne.
Monday 3rd March
Thomas, Yumi and Yvonne went to do death road today. When Joe and Craig went to book the company was closed so they planned to do it Tuesday. We headed out to visit the Coca Museum - bit boring!, looked around the witches market (they sell llama foetus´.. its rank!) then headed to an english pub where we had lunch and sat chilling for hours! We then went back to the hostel had dinner in the bar and the boys played killer pool in the hostel bar with all the other guests, Joe and Craig were out quite quickly but Thomas came 2nd! Early(ish) night as Joe has death road tomorrow!
