After a horrendous night's sleep (or lack of) due to a combination of loud techno music and a gaggle of drunk Irish folk carrying on until dawn, wearily got a cab to the ferry port. 3 hour ferry to Colonia, an old Portuguese port and smugglers haven in Uruguay. Found a hostel and set off to explore the cobbled streets of the old town. Lots of pink and red houses adorned with brightly coloured flowers, old cars, nice plazas and cafes, old town Walls and drawbridges, the odd cannon and lighthouse, a few piers, lots of boats, and good views of the Rio De la Plata.
Perused through a number of stalls selling things made largely from sheep and cow, or connected to the drinking of mate. Sat on a small beach for a bit before getting pestered by a stray dog or two.
Fruit and veg not being Uruguay's strong point, we eventually found some to make a fresh non-meat meal. Amy had her first bowl of strawberries and cream for 20 years - early signs are good.....
