Spent the morning working out some plans and picking up some tips on the Uruguayan coast from a young Englishman. Midday bus from Colonia, 3 hours down the road to Montevideo. Taxi to hostel then wandered toward the old town. Not as enchanting as we had anticipated - a few nice buildings and plazas but it didn't blow us away - although we have been somewhat spoilt on this trip. Also possible that we missed some nice bits near the port where we told by numerous people to avoid due to recent muggings, even in broad daylight. One thing we did like though was the ice cream, Amy declaring it to be the best chocolate ice cream she had ever tasted.
Walked back to hostel along Las Ramblas, alongside the rippling waves of the Rio del Plata.
Feeling our running trainers were due an outing, scampered along Las Ramblas in the other direction, along with the more athletic of the Montevideo population that are able to stop drinking mate long enough to fit in something else. Took in the evening beach atmosphere at Playa Ramirez then turned back for home.
