Dodgy Cuban flight back to Mexico with dry ice as air con. Hopped on a coach at airport to Playa Del Carmen, a beach resort south of Cancun. Very touristy and pricey but good beach. Found a cheap hostel with a "swimming pool" (more like a paddling pool). Enjoyed a swim in the sea and supped corona on the beach, before catching up on Internet correspondence after the Cuban barren period.
Went out to a lively local restaurant for dinner on recommendation from Mexican chap - not the first time we have shunned a tourist strip in favour of venturing in to the hood. Chicken fajitas very yummy. Portions so massive we asked for take away bag - made for a very filling lunch the next day! With very full bellies, no air con, and a 'private room' that was only private due to a cardboard wall that almost made it halfway to the ceiling, we spent most the night awake. Still, at least had no problems getting out the room to catch our bus - couldn't get out the oven quick enough.

stef Si and I honeymooned near here in Xcaret- I used to say it was the first and last all inclusive, holiday resort holiday I'd do. Now I'm saying I want an all inclusive once the soon to be born daughter is off the breast milk. I will sit by the pool with many cocktails. Lots of love on your travels xxx
