Headed up Cerro de Monserrate on the funicular train for brilliant views of Bogota, which seems to sprawl on forever, including up all the surrounding mountains. Luckily went first thing because soon the clouds had rolled in, the lightning was menacing and the rain had begun - and when it rains in Bogota, it's cold rain - so cold we purchased a woolly hat and had some coca tea to warm up. After a potato pancake thing from a street vendor, visited Bogota's famous gold museum - it was good - lots of gold. Cafe founded in 1816 in the historic part of town for some chocolate santafereno, basically v nice hot chocolate with cheese and sweet breads, with everything dunked in the chocolate. Sat in Plaza de Bolivar trying not to get on the end of a pigeon's unwanted business - think Trafalgar Square in the good old days. Wandered the cobbled streets of the pretty La Candeleria area, before settling down in an old train carriage to sample some jugo de lulo and guanabana (apparently both hard to come by outside of Colombia). Back to hostel for Spanish scrabble over an Aquila beer.
