Hired a rather large canoe from a chap on the beach and paddled our way around the Baia de Paraty, around and on to a number of the small islands. 4 hours with our canoe took us out on to the high seas which at times were a bit on the wavy side making paddling somewhat tricky. Spent most of the day on Praia do Pontal, a small beach in the town. Enjoyed lazing around and swimming in the warmest waters we had seen for some time. Lunched on shark fingers and chips, accompanied with some lovely fruit juices at one of the cafes on the sand. Walked through some of the cobbled streets of the old town, admiring the brightly coloured houses and boats, perusing some art, and sampling coconuts and cakes. Awoke to some violent banging. Drew the emergency exit curtain to find we were somewhere that looked like a service station. It was light out and we were shortly supposed to be at Sao Jose dos Campos. However after a short speech (in Portuguese) by one of the bus crew, everybody else got off the bus moaning and groaning.
