Awoke to something of a chill in the air and on looking at the surrounding mountains realised it had snowed overnight. It was devishly cold as we caught a boat across Lago Viedma for ice trekking on Glaciar Viedma. Fortunately the clouds moved on and the sun came out to make our stint on the glacier a tad warmer than it might have been. Crampons on, we trudged across enough crushed ice to throw a worldwide cocktail party, and then through a smaller version with a break for Baileys on the rocks .... on the ice. On the return boat leg, the skipper stopped to lasso a large lump of ice that had broken off an iceberg - we can only assume he also ran a local bar. After a siesta awoke to a perfectly blue sky, apparently a rarity in El Chalten. By walking to the Los Condores trail we were able to see all of the peaks of Cerro Torre as well as those of Fitz Roy, in addition to watching 4 circling condors. Toasted our good fortune regarding the weather with a beer at the local micro brewery and a traditional Argentine stew (Lorca).
