After a relatively nice hostel breakfast including cereal, croissants, fruit and tea (although not of the standard you immediately imagine) we set off in search of BA adventure. After dismissing the idea of a Spanish musical we were soon in a rather large queue leading to a small window from which we were hoping to obtain some football tickets. Successfully obtained 2 'popular' 70 peso tickets (about £11), which seemed to be the cheapest - despite asking whether these would get us a seat and being told yes, we had our suspicions this would not be the case.
After sitting on the grass of Plaza Lavalle at the back of Teatro Colon managed to find the side entrance and have a sniff around of what we had heard was a famously beautiful building - the foyer was nice but better still the tickets were affordable so we snapped 2 up for saturday night.
Our wandering through centro BA took us on to Plaza de Los Congressos, and the US Capitol based building, a huge fountain that soaked us when the wind changed, many of the lilac trees that cover BA, and some breeding pigeons. Next along Av de Mayo to Plaza de Mayo and the famous pink presidential palace where Evita used to wow the crowds. After a few antique shops, ventured along Av Florida, a fancy shopping street, fuelled by the idea we needed to be appropriately dressed for the ballet - but alas prices were at the higher end of a backpackers budget. Somehow got hauled in to a dubious elevator to a weird office to be told about touristy tango shows - we escaped. However inquiring at another place we were given a guided tour of the theatre and tango rooms which was rather fun.
