This morning I got up early, I did some sudoku and had some time to myself whilst the guys stayed in bed. The chef cooked me a spanish omelette for breakfast, again, such a simple thing to cook yet he makes it so perfectly! The guys rose around 10am. We sat around the dining room table reminiscing on primary school and other memories, it was nice. It's been really nice that even though I have not seen Rich or Arnold for so many years that we have all been able to get on so well. It's like we've never been apart.
We were going to go to Bagamoyo today which is known for it's slave port, but as it's a two hour drive, we decided to stay local and head to a market. We dropped Suzi off at Arnold's Bebes (Grandma's) first. As per, they were very welcoming. I love meeting new people here, they are also so welcoming and friendly, they are also genuinely happy about meeting new people and show that in their welcoming.
The market trip was a success. Having Arnold with us was definitely a bonus. Being Mzungu's they always try and charge ridiculous prices, we are not stupid enough to pay them, but being with a local, Arnold was able to haggle with them in swahili and do a bit of sweet talking to the owners. He definitely has a way with words that one!
Rich bought several pairs of elephant pants and a ketenge for his Mum and girlfriend, I only bought a pair of elephant pants, and they were for myself, haha. I will buy my gifts closer to when I am leaving.
After the market we went to Slipway which is where the local boatyard is. It's a small shopping place with a couple of bars and restaurants. We picked a perfect place to sit, the sun was shining, our view was of the sea and boats, and we sat there drinking beer and cocktails. It was a pleasant afternoon. We watched the sun set, which is a beautiful site here, every sun set I have watched has been a "kodak moment". We bought a bottle of wine on our way home as we planned to have a movie night. Surprisingly, Rich and Arnold love a chick flick, and so we decided that we would watch Leap Year. I couldn't believe it when they started listing all of the chick flick's that they had seen. I always believed that guys were against these types of movies... Obviously I was wrong!
Before we started on the wine, we went to the gym. Wow, I have lost my fitness rather quickly. We only had a short gym session, just over half an hour. I watched Arnold and Rich on the punching bag, it was a little scary. You can detect the anger in Rich's face when he punches. He is into MMA, boxing, kick boxing, etc. at home, so it was probably nice for him to get a few punches in. After the gym we went for a quick swim. We established that Arnold and Rich can't float which I find rather funny. They don't even float for a few seconds, literally start sinking straight away. They tried a mushroom float instead of lying on their backs, but if anything, they sunk even quicker! Very strange. They sink like bricks, haha. It was nice to go to the gym and do a bit of exercise. I feel like I am becoming a bit of a porker with all of the food that I have been eating here. Never mind! I am enjoying myself and living by the Tanzanian way of life..... Hakuna Matata! It's almost therapeutic to have no worries. Having no worries is easy here, as everyone thinks that way and they have a very relaxed approach to everything. Having no worries at home is slightly different, nothing would get done at home if they had the same attitude and rhythm as Africans.
The evening was again a nice relaxing evening. I felt so sleepy, and only had half a glass of wine. Red wine does make me rather sleepy though! I didn't make it all the way through Leap Year, but that comes at no surprise, as it's a rarity if I do make it through a whole film at night, Rich and Arnold can't believe how quickly I fall asleep during a film. I don't know how either actually, but Arnold's bed is rather comfy and watching TV makes me feel sleepy. Even if it's a good film and I am enjoying it, I seem to fall asleep.
Calling it a night, we are up early tomorrow as we are heading to Bagamoyo!
