Felt the effects of alcohol today! We stayed in bed pretty much the whole day. Arnold and I got up in the afternoon to go and get some sweets and frozen yoghurt, but we shortly returned to bed and watched World War Z. It was an amazing film!
In the evening we all went to a comedy show at a nearby hotel, The Golden Tulip. The first couple of comedians Rich and I did not understand as they only spoke swahili.... Bit of a nightmare! Also awkward as everyone else were laughing but Rich and I just kept looking at eachother as we had no clue what was happening or what they were laughing at.
The next comedian spoke part English part Swahili and so we were able to understand some of his jokes. He asked if there were any white people in the room, Rich and I were the only ones and so he headed over to us. He was talking about terms in english that use the word black and are not necessarily positive i.e. a blackout. He asked Rich for money, others had given 10000 shillings, Rich gave him 500 shillings which made everyone laugh!
A few jokes later he returned; he asked Rich if I was his girlfriend and when he said no, he stood next to me and before I knew it I was being pulled up on stage. He asked me if I spoke swahili and when I said that I didn't he said that he would tell me how to greet someone and he told me to say "nakupenda", he then told me to say "twende na mimi", he then turned me around and we walked up the stage, he told me that we were just walking up and down the catwalk for them. He said that people who hold hands in Dar have to kiss, but I was not going to kiss him, it was funny though. Finally he moved the microphone away and asked me for my number, he kept asking what numbers but I said no. It was a very embarrassing experience but funny at the same time. I know a little swahili and I knew straight away that "nakupenda" isn't a greeting, when I returned to the table Arnold, Rich and his family kindly told me that "nakupenda" means "i love you", "twende na mimi" means "come with me" and when he walked me up and down the stage he had told the guys to check out my bum! I could feel my face burning when I was on stage with embarrassment and when I sat down I felt even more embarrassed.
The topping on the cake was that the whole comedy show was being filmed and shown on national television, brilliant! Just what I wanted to hear haha!
The final comedian came on stage, she was the main act, but she shouted down the microphone and it distorted her voice, so although she spoke in English I couldn't understand her, or atleast it was a struggle.
We headed off part way through the last act and went to bed, I was very tired and falling asleep at the table.
