The day started at 03:20 with a sausage roll, as Lorna and Charlotte wanted to go to the airport early. Although the airport was particularly busy we were through security promptly and able to find a seat in the metro bar. Breakfast for Lorna was a bowl of porridge, Charlotte a fry up, while I opted for a pint of Heineken. We were joined in the bar by Stephen Suri and his sister who were off to Bristol.
The gate was full of nervous passengers due to the media speculation of Thomas Cook. This continues after boarding as we missed our take off slot of 6:30. To everyone’s relief we did finally take to the air at 7:23. The flight itself was enjoyable, I watched Netflix and a few beers alongside our prepaid breakfast. We were the only plane at the airport so were out very quickly despite my bag being the third last to come off. Once on the coach we were soon off at the first stop. The only people from our flight checking in to our resort. Our bungalows were not ready yet so we headed to the snack bar by the pool. The setup here is a help yourself to hot food such as hot dogs and burgers. Mini ice creams and doughnuts and pastries are also available. Drinks wise there is a beer tap, wine, cava & sangria. House spirits and premixed cocktails can be obtained at the manned bar. There two pools each side of the Castillo. One playing music and the other more relaxed. They both over look the ocean and huge beach. We took a walk round the bars and shops on the promenade in which we get a 15% discount as hotel guests. Once round the headland you get a nice refreshing wind overlooking the rocks out to sea.
Our bungalow was ready now, Charlottes just around the corner wasn’t ready for another hour. When she did get in it was identical to ours. Plenty of room with a small kitchen, patio area with a table and chairs and two sun loungers.
I set out to the sports bar on the promenade to see if they were showing the Newcastle game later. They weren’t, and I had forgotten to take a key to get back in the resort. So walked into the town in search of a bar. This took a lot longer than I anticipated as I took a few wrong turns and ended gone for an hour. Exhausted I made it back to the pool to join up with everyone.
After a brief dip in the pool and some sunbathing I went back to get ready for the evening. I had lost track of time at it was already 17:30. So I hightailed it over to the nearest Irish bar and only missed the first ten minutes of the game. The only positive thing about the match was the view of the ocean I had behind the tv. Otherwise a very frustrating game.
We all headed to dinner with the sun already having gone down behind the hill. We sat in the corner which is surrounded by glass and gave us a view of the beach and sea. Main course for me was Pollock and veg. The white wine at dinner I discovered was extremely pleasant and I shall be trying some more throughout the trip.
Now all tired with our bellies full we went home. The idea was to watch match of the day but instead Lorna and I FaceTimed Becky before calling it a night around 11.
