Today was our earliest start at 07:00 to ensure we were able to catch the 08:30 bus to La Leina. Allen & Ellen took all the luggage in the car. Walking across the border was very easy and fun going across Gibraltar airport.
We all met up in the main square at 10:30 for breakfast. Allen, Ellen, & Stefan trying full English breakfasts. Served by no less than seven different people the service was very poor. Following breakfast we took a cable car ride up to the top of the rock. As soon as we stepped out of the cable car the wild monkeys were out in force. Trying to steal people's bags & food at every opportunity. We visited St Michaels cave all together, which looks an impressive but damp concert venue. Allen & Ellen then set of for their drive to Ronda. We walked up & down hills exploring the remaining attractions such as the siege tunnels, the apes den & finally the Moorish castle. Suitably exhausted we tried to find traditional fish & chips. Our first choice was full and we ended up in a Moroccan owed establishment. The fish and chips were more like ones you would cook in an oven. Still Stefan and Amanda tried John Smiths and AJ had a sip of Strongbow. It was here at four thirty, we reviewed the bus timetable and realised we could still get to Ronda but not until 23:00 & we would have to go via Alegericas. None of us had enjoyed the shaky bus journey down the coast & imagined it to be much worse going up the mountains to Ronda. As a group we decided to rent a car which was a great decision. The journey was every bit as windy and hilly as we thought and even in the car it was tough to take at times. Bad memories from our car journey to Sarajevo started to surface but thankfully we hit the main road and all bad thoughts went away.
Getting the car also allowed us to arrive in Ronda in good time. Our apartment was in the old town right next to a church & a large square. This square was full of children playing in the fountain & singing when we arrived. David & I set about preparing the hot tub for use.
We had dinner in the square in the Bodega San Francisco which was overflowing with people. We had a short wait for a table, but another great tapas experience.
