Everyone woke in good time to start the day as planned with a visit to the 9/11 memorial park. The pools in place serve as a potent reminder to the size of not only the buildings but also the how 9/11 affected everyone around the world. Our next stop was battery park, full of people heading out to the statue of liberty.
Being a Saturday we were able to take it wall street at a more leisurely pace. Sitting outside the exchange to enjoy the sunshine. As the sun was still beating down we decided to walk through china town & little Italy. It was at this point Amit purchased a fruit for us to try, that he had eaten in Africa. It was very tasty, but Sarah felt she was having a mild allergic reaction to it. This led us on a search to find medicine in Chinatown. Eventually Sarah was able to buy a single Benadryl from a newsagent!
Katz's hosted us for lunch. This deli is famous for its seen in the movie When Harry met Sally. I ordered a Rebun with pastrami & a knish. I was originally disappointed with the size of the sandwich. As soon as I started eating I realised that my eyes had deceived me. The sandwich was packed with flavour & ingredients. It was more than enough. Amit & Sarah were both unable to finish their respective sandwiches.
Despite Sarah now feeling drowsy from her Benadryl, we had cocktails in the sun at the nexus of the universe that is 1st & 1st.
Reluctantly we left the sun trap to head to the High line walkway in Chelsea. This artistic suburb has an elevated walk that allows you to really see this unique neighbourhood. We picked up some Gelato as we walked along.
Our plan had been to grab a drink next to the Hudson at the Frying Pan bar. The huge queue put pay to that, so we walked all the way along the river to Pier 83. This is the home of the circle line ferry, where I had been previously. This allowed us to finally have a beer on the water.
The remainder of the evening was spent chatting at bars on the lower east side where we were joined by Stefan & Amanda. We finally called it a night at 04:30am, allowing me the experience of grabbing a late night subway.
