Well, well, well......... Home of 'THE' Beach.......
We have landed in paradise!!!!!! This is by far the best place we have been.
We arrived from Phuket by boat, which we got absolutely soaked on. We then departed the boat at the harbour & nearly got mugged by all the hawkers trying to get us to stop at there guesthouses. We finally picked one just off the beach....... Oh the beach...... It was amazing (Bormey & Bell, you know exactly what we mean). Imagine a paradise island & times it by 100!!!!!
Strangely though, one of the first things we noticed was the effect the Tsunami had on Phi Phi. Phi Phi was hit by waves on both sides of the island, one was 5 meters high & the other 10 meters. They both met in the middle of the island & destroyed nearly everything. I think around 2000 people died on the island & the island is pretty tiny so I would say that it wiped out nearly one third of the local population in Phi Phi. Building has only recently begun again on Phi Phi.
We spent the first 2 days doing absolutely sod all on the beach, it was heaven!!!! Then on day 3 we hired a kayak & went to a few places around the island. We first pulled up on 'Monkey Beach'. You guessed it, we fed some monkeys!!! It was quite funny actually as you can see on the photos, especially the one drinking from the Sprite can!!! We also snorkeled just off shore which was pretty cool as we fed shoals of fish under water with pineapple.
We then went to a tiny little beach in the shape of a cove, and had it all to ourselves!!!! The water here was crystal clear, but we were getting attacked by the fish so we pegged it on to the beach.
The next day we went on an all day boat trip around the island & also to Phi Phi Ley, which was were 'The Beach' was filmed. We snorkeled in Phi Phi Ley in 3 different places & the sea was the clearest I have ever seen. The coral was amazing. The fish were in abundance also. We saw Clown fish, Puffer fish, Angel fish & others. This chap also saw a sea snake while we were in the water, but we don't believe him!!!!
We had lunch & then went to Bamboo Island. The boat anchored about 100 meters off shore & a few of us got in the water & snorkeled, but Hannah opted out of this one as the guides on the boat said that the next place we were going was 'Shark Point', yes, to see SHARKS!!!! After being in the water for around 10 mins I had the feeling I was being stalked, so I made my excuses & made for the boat..... then that's when it happened....... A shark attacked & took my right leg off!!!!!...... Only playing with you, but this little fish 'sucked me'!!!!
We arrived at Shark Point S H I T T I N G ourselves. Anyway, we worked up enough courage & got in the water. we swam around (holding hands as 'I'.... I mean Hannah was scared) for about 10 mins but we didn't get to see a shark. Although when everyone was back on the boat, one of the girls said that she saw 3 sharks, one was around 2 meters long!!! Aaaarrrhhhh!!!
We had a good few nights out in Phi Phi & spent far too much money, but we have to say that it was the best place we have been & we would definitely recommend it to anyone to visit as we have both decided that we are going back there once our trip has ended!!!!
Anyway, sorry for the long post card but I felt it was just as the place is paradise.
Next up, Krabi........ xxx
