On Wednesday we had a city tour which was arranged by our University. We started our day very early by meeting our guide at the campus. At first went to Yue Xiu Xin Hui's Park, where is the symbol statue of Guangzhou, statue of Five goats. Guangzhou's other name is a Goat City. It comes from the fact that long time ago, at the time of famine, there came many people to Guangzhou from abroad and brought goats with them. During the whole trip, goats had carried rice-ears in their teeth. When the goats started to eat grass in the pasture, accidentally seeded the ground, and so the rice fields began to grow and the people rescued from hunger.
After the park we went to King Nanye's tomb, which was really impressive. Into the tomb there was locked many prostitute women to be the death of victims for the king. Those women have had a lack of oxygen and died in there. The remains of them were displayed at a museum in which we paid a visit later. After the tomb and its museum we went to see the temple of Six Banyan trees, which was a Buddhist temple. Banyan is the tree, under which Siddharta Gautama became a buddha. After visiting the temple it was time for lunch. We were so hungry and knew that the trip included a traditional Cantonese lunch. So, it could be anything from dogs to snakes. However, we didn't have to disappoint, because we got the best Chinese lunch during our stay so far. We got 8 different dishes, and except the soup, every single dish was really tasty!
After lunch we went to see another temple. It was called Guangxiao Temple. It was yet another Buddhist temple, and pretty same kind of than all the other temples in here, but in the museum there were a lot of wonderful pieces of art, for example unbelievable bone-carving master pieces and finger-painting works. About the last one I added one video to my blog. Take a look at it, it is amazing!
Our last sightseeing was a shopping street demonstration. Shopping street was already familiar to me and I was very happy to have a little free time there again. But unfortunately I just got depressed. I found pair just a wonderful summer trousers. I went to fitting rooms with the size of M, when the vendors (about 5 persons) began to laugh all around me. They said that they could help me and brought me a pair of pants size XL! Just to mention, back home I wear clothes of size XS or S. Well, I couldn't help it so I just went to try the trousers on despite the huge size. But. What happened then? I couldn't close the zip of size XL pants! All right, I am here size XXL, and I just have to live with it, but it really is depressing anyway!
After the shopping we went to Finpro company visit, which was really successful. It last about 2.5 hours and was really informative and interesting. Most of the time we discussed openly about Finnish companies' different activities (and problems) here in China, and about many other China-related issues. The visit was certainly one of the best compared to any previous company visits in which I have been to. After our visit we went to eat to the city center, but the restaurant was so insignificant that it is not worth of mentioning.
This is all for this time. I'll write to you again soon! :)
